  • Lesson 2: Delivering Your Message: discusses the importance of delivering your message in words. It examines how the characteristics of language interact in ways that can both improve and diminish effective business communication.
  • Lesson 3: Understanding Your Audience: examines how to become a more effective communicator by understanding yourself and how others view you: your attitudes, beliefs, and values; your self-concept; and how the self-fulfilling prophecy may influence your decisions.
  • Lesson 4: Effective Business Writing: addresses the written word in a business context. Examines the symbols, design, font, timing, and related nonverbal expressions you make when composing a page or document. Discussions focus on effective communication of thoughts and ideas through writing that is clear, concise, and efficient.
  • Lesson 5: Writing Preparation: considers the writing process from a singular perspective, where you are personally responsible for planning, researching, and producing a product of writing.
  • Lesson 6: Writing: focuses on several strategies for success when it comes to the creative process of writing, and your awareness of these skills will prove invaluable as your responsibility increases and your ability to shape documents develops.
  • Lesson 7: Revising and Presenting Your Writing: covers how general, specific, and style revisions increase a document’s clarity, conciseness, and professionalism. Discusses how proofreading and design put the finishing touches on a completed document.
  • Lesson 8: Feedback in the Writing Process: covers the writing process and its components with an emphasis on feedback; examines the difference between indirect and direct feedback; effective strategies to elicit valuable feedback and to recognize valid feedback.
  • Lesson 9: Business Writing in Action: explains the required skill and expertise in writing in an online environment – from text messages to reports, and how you represent yourself with the written word counts.
  • Lesson 10: Developing Business Presentations: explains the process of preparing for a speech or oral presentation; develop your skills in preparing clear and concise messages to reach your target audience.
  • Lesson 11: Nonverbal Delivery: examines how body language or nonverbal communication are key aspects of effective business communication.
  • Lesson 12: Organization and Outlines: covers how to organize the information for a speech. While knowledge of your topic is key to an effective speech, do not underestimate the importance of organization. Organization in your speech is helpful both to you and to your audience.
  • Lesson 13: Presentations to Inform: explains the concept [t of informative speech, its purpose, and styles; how to prepare for and present a successful informative speech, and motivate your audience by making your material relevant and useful
  • Lesson 14: Presentations to Persuade: covers the art of persuasive speech; the principles of reciprocity, scarcity, authority, commitment and consistency, consensus, and liking; a framework for persuasive speech and how to prepare an elevator speech
  • Lesson 15: Business Presentations in Action: explores many common activities such as accepting awards, media interviews, master of ceremonies, etc. with brief discussions and activities on how to prepare yourself to perform as a successful business communicator.
  • Lesson 16: Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Business Communication: delves into the concepts of intrapersonal and interpersonal business communication; and the dynamics of the ritual of conversation can be used to learn to prepare for employment interviews and evaluations, both common contexts of communication in the work environment.
  • Lesson 17: Negative News and Crisis Communication: examines several scenarios in which negative news is delivered or received and ways to improve communication; discusses a formal crisis communication plan.
  • Lesson 18: Intercultural and International Business Communication: explores the dynamic aspects of intercultural and international Business Communication communication.
  • Lesson 19: Group Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership: examines organizational communication in terms of group problem-solving, business and professional meetings and teamwork and leadership.
