Is it Time for a Chief Privacy Officer?

Information is the lifeblood of ANY organization. Public confidence is the foundation for shareholder value. Is it time to create a dedicated role to protect information to maintain public confidence?

Chinese hackers, apparently, hacked into Indian R&D and defense establishments' computers and made out with reams of classified information. The Indians did not know it till Canadian/US researchers who were on the tail of the hackers informed them!!

Credit card processors have been hacked into many times - the hackers make out with millions of records of personal and financial information of their customers. The authors argue that it is time to have a dedicated Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) to protect company information. Not sure what they plan on doing with the CIO, you know, the chief "information" officer!

Good Discussion!
