Example of a Collaborative IT Strategy Development Process



This example illustrates a collaborative review process used to develop an IT Strategy Plan. The highlights of this IT Strategy Development process are:

  1. Identify strategic areas of importance to focus the planning effort
  2. Conduct interviews of key stakeholders and selected members of the wider ecosystem (customers, partners etc.) to gain insights into the changing needs and uses of technology
  3. Form joint teams of IT, business area representatives, and subject matter experts
  4. Review the status of existing goals, objectives, action items
  5. Revise/Refresh (or create) a strategic plan
  6. Review this plan in a "planning retreat" to further refine, consolidate, align this plan with business priorities
  7. Regularly revisit Information Technology Strategic Plan and update it to reflect changes to the current environment or strategic priorities as well as the dynamic changes in technology
