There are a couple of key messages in this article on Orb - a company that provides software to view content from any device. 1) Place shifting is a trend that will catch steam. Orb is positioned well 2) Place shifting is a concept that is part of the bigger trend towards convergence. The latter is currently focused on hardware to make multiple devices converge into one. 3) in eBusiness every cool idea does not have a place. One must have a business model i.e. a way to make money to succeed. Orb is still looking for one but I do not think they should be disheartened. Hotmail - free email - sold for $400MM. HumanClick - free live person contact on a website - sold for a similar amount. Skype was aquired in a multi billion dollar deal by eBay. Orb will find its takers provided it gets to a critical mass of customers. http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/dec2006/tc20061226_896230.htm?campaign_id=rss_tech
