The cliché "the only constant is change" is so true when applied to technology. It is just that we are desensitized to important things because of such clichés.
So, the question for technology planning is: how do we keep the rapid advances in technology in synch with the relatively slow pace of technology implementation? By the time one implements some technology solution, a newer better technology might emerge. (More often than not, this is true.)
More importantly, the pace of business change is even faster than the pace of technology change. Consequently a bigger question for a technology planner is: how do we keep pace with the rapid change in the business climate?
Is there is a need for a new Business IT Alignment or IT Strategy process? This paper presents a good way to approach this problem.
