CIO Wiki was ported over to the Mediawiki platform a few months back. It was running in parallel to test out the platform. This week, we have cut-over to production.
Mediawiki is the preeminent Wiki platform with a great function and feature set but more importantly, a massive ecosystem. The decision to port over to the platform was a no-brainer. The issue we faced was the amount of work required and the chance of disruption because of the fundamentally different architectures of the two platforms. Well, to cut a long story short, we took the plunge a few months back and cautiously proceeded to the point we are at – on Mediawiki 🙂
What is CIO Wiki?
CIO Wiki is a management dictionary, glossary, and encyclopedia built from the ground up for senior IT practitioners.
With ~3,000+ articles it is well on its way to becoming the go-to source for definitions and explanations of concepts critical to CIO 3.0.
Why another Wiki?
Truth be told, Wikipedia is a great source of knowledge and information on a lot of topics. An excellent resource that is a treasure for all. However, it lacks depth in IT Management. More disturbingly, it promotes and propagates established views of things driven by source rather than the value of the information presented – irreverence has relevance; the small guy often says more of value. You get my point 😉
We felt that the hired-hand-written click-bait that passes for IT Management Wiki today just needed to be replaced with a practitioner-driven one. So, we stepped in and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
How is CIO Wiki Different?
We are practitioner-driven. We curate the most relevant content into an article. We do DEEP on every topic.
We curate content from around the web based on our understanding of a topic. Sure, the big names have their chance but so do the little websites that do not make it to the top of SERPs.
As a token of our appreciation, we prominently display and give links back to the source without the “nofollow” directive – the purest link juice in the SEO world.
Why is the CIO Wiki closed to Contributors?
To prevent SPAM – we want to devote as much energy as possible to the content. So, each ounce taken playing detective takes away from evaluating and presenting good content. CIO Wiki will remain closed to contributors for the foreseeable future.
